
Fatih Akin in the Oscar race for Hamburg

Germany is sending Fatih Akin's Hamburg thriller "Into the Fate" into the race for an Oscar nomination in the category "Best Non-English Language Film". This was announced today by German Films. A total of eleven productions were on the German nomination list, including the FFHSH-funded drama "Gleissendes Glück".
Maria KöpfCEO of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, says: "Great news from Munich: WithInto the fate has - after Maren Ade's successful filmToni Erdmann - Once again, an FFHSH-funded production has the chance to be nominated for an Oscar. We are very pleased about this, also because we were able to accompany the making of the film from the very beginning."
About the film: In Fatih Akin's thriller Into the Fate, internationally renowned actress Diane Kruger plays Katja, a young mother who loses her husband and son in a bomb attack. The police catch two suspects: a young neo-Nazi couple. Katja wants justice - there is no alternative for her. Kruger was honoured as best actress for her role at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was realised by Akin's production company bombero international in co-production with Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, Macassar Productions, Pathé and corazón international. Most of the filming took place in Hamburg. "Into the Fate" will be released in German cinemas on 23 November 2017.
About the Academy Awards: The 90th Academy Awards will take place in Hollywood on 4 March 2018. The Academy in Hollywood will decide on the nominations in the "Best Non-English Language Film" category. The nominations are to be announced on 23 January 2018.
