Nothing is better than Altona
14.06.2019 | 21. altonale
Hamburg's Altona neighbourhood has once again been dominated by culture for a few days now. The 21st altonale takes place from 31 May to 16 June. In addition to literature, art and theatre, there is also plenty for film fans to enjoy. Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and film altonale will be showing three films and guests.
In her documentary Of Bees and Flowers, filmmaker Lola Randl explores the question of whether country life is more fulfilling than a life in the city. The Berlin native turned her back on the capital a few years ago and found happiness in a small village in the Uckermark. The film is a portrait of city dwellers who set off into unknown territory and try to make themselves at home in the countryside. (Thursday 13 June, 8 pm, Lichtmeß Kino) Guest: Lola Randl

Nothing is better than nothing at all - Jan Peters attempts to answer this question in his 2010 film of the same name. The filmmaker takes us into the bizarre world of side jobs and adventurous business models. A self-experiment full of irony and artistic humour. (Sat, 8 June, 6 pm, Thalia in Gaußstraße) Guest: Jan Peters

And those who prefer to watch in the open air should make a note of Tuesday 11 June at 8pm. Sankt Paulius starke Frauen - Reeperbahnerinnen will be shown on Platz der Republik at 10 pm. The film by Hamburg native Rasmus Gerlach portrays numerous women from the neighbourhood: From burlesque performers to pub landladies and musicians. Before the film, there will be live music by Bernadette La Hengst and "The Livebirds", who made the soundtrack to the film. Filmmaker Rasmus Gerlach will of course also be there.
