The Hamburg Elbbrücken, the bridges across the Elbe, are the last ones before the Elbe flows into the North Sea. Since 1872, iron railway bridges have replaced ferries crossing the Norderelbe, the northern part of the Elbe, and the Süderelbe, the southern part. The Freihafen-Elbbrücke was built between 1914 and 1926, and in 1938 the Reichsautobahnbrücke across the Süderelbe was opened. After the Second World War, many new bridges, including railway bridges were built, alongside bridges from the 19th and early 20th century.

The Oberhafenkantine was built in 1925 and closed in 1997. After a longer break it was reopened in 2006. The heritage building with his typical north german "Klinkerexpressionismus" is opened 7 days the week. The comfortable dinning room is for up to 30 persons and an old storeroom under the roof nowadays hosts a British-styled club room. Shootings are possible upon request.

The Oberhafen district is located in the eastern part of the Hafencity. In contrast to the other part of the hafencity is the Oberhafen district used to stay in the hands of the Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg and give creativity and culture a new room. At the moment most of it is used for logical uses and as a freight depot. Single storied storehouses are dominating the district. Old and unused tracks can be found on the streets. The district isn’t flood proof.
