Kiel central station is the second largest station in Schleswig-Holstein and starting point for trips to Hamburg, Lübeck, Flensburg and Husum. It is located directly at Kieler Förde and a few meters away from the ferry pier to Göteborg and Oslo. The station is a railway terminus with a three-naved station hall. Between 1999 and 2006 was the station redesigned and modernized. The old emperor staircase in the eastern part of it was rebuilt, too.

In 2001 this significant end point of the Kiel fjord was built at the so called “Kieler Hoern”. In the shape of a curved barette this modern building offers office accommodation in exposed position for firms of every kind. A restaurant with a large look out terrace opened in the upper floor. From here you have a great view over the Kiel fjord.

The „Hörnbrücke” (Hoern Bridge) is a three-membered bridge for pedestrians and bicycles in Kiel. Since 1998 it connects the western waterside of the Hoern with the “germania harbour” in the district Gaarden at the eastern waterside. It is located in direct closeness to the fairy terminal. The bridge is about 26 meters long and is planked. For the shipping traffic the bridge gets opened up to 12 times per day. The modern ferries of the Scandinavian line are demonstrating the impression of the haven in Kiel. The biggest part of the haven is on the eastern banks of the fjord. In this area is the ferry transport to Russia and the Baltic states located. 2014 has been the new passenger terminal for crusader opened on berth 1. More information are on the website.

The old town hall of Kiel was built between 1907 and 1911 and is since then home of the urban administration. The art nouveau main front and the high, quadratic tower are forming the town’s landmark. Every hour a glockenspiel is playing in the 106 metre high tower, which is accessible by foot. The opera house is located in the direct neighbourhood. Today there is also a “new town hall” located in the Andreas-Gayk-Street 31.
