The Oberhafenkantine was built in 1925 and closed in 1997. After a longer break it was reopened in 2006. The heritage building with his typical north german "Klinkerexpressionismus" is opened 7 days the week. The comfortable dinning room is for up to 30 persons and an old storeroom under the roof nowadays hosts a British-styled club room. Shootings are possible upon request.
The Oberhafen district is located in the eastern part of the Hafencity. In contrast to the other part of the hafencity is the Oberhafen district used to stay in the hands of the Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg and give creativity and culture a new room. At the moment most of it is used for logical uses and as a freight depot. Single storied storehouses are dominating the district. Old and unused tracks can be found on the streets. The district isn’t flood proof.
Between the Zollkanal and Oberhafen has been a bridge to the old district Klosterhafen since Jan.1st.2008. Its historically precursor was built up between 1902 and 1904. Moreover, freight traffic was used to cross under the bridge in past, so it is a swing-bridge that has four tracks above for the railway and downstairs two traffic lanes. The old Oberhafenbrücke was demounted between Dec.26th, 2007 and Jan.1st, 2008 and displaced from the prefabricated bridge.
