The Finkenwerder Yachthafen (marina) is visually cut off from the Elbe, and only becomes accessible once the entrance to the North of Rüschweg has been passed. The marina next to the Airbus premises is home to several sailing clubs and their pontoons and mooring berths. The largest club is TUS Finkenwerder, boasting c 250 sailing boats. The East bank at Rüschweg is marked by trees, shrubs and wild flowers, creating a very romantic atmosphere. The club premises with clubhouses and warehouses are situated at Rüschweg 18.
This small romantic half-timber red-brick church with a gable tower lies in the suburb of Nienstedten near the Elbe. It was built between 1750 and 1751 and is mainly being used for weddings. Galleries on wooden columns line the interior and the main hall has a wooden vault. Historical graves of fishermen, seamen and ship-owners can be found in the adjacent cemetery.
The Jenisch house, built between the years 1831 and 1834, is a typical representative of late classicist architecture. Due to its almost square floor plan and its only graphically differentiated walls, the building appears sublimely plain. On the first floor, a balcony is supported by four Doric sandstone pillars. The filigree of the gold-plated cast iron balustrade decorates windows and balcony. After repairing the destructions of war, the house was re-opened in 1955 as museum of home decor. As the original furniture was not preserved, a compromise was created: The spacious representative rooms on the ground floor are decorated in Classical and Biedermeier-style, partly with artefacts from Jenisch's possession. The 14 rooms on the two other levels display furniture from the late Renaissance to Art Nouveau.
The Jenischpark was part of Caspar Voght"s extensive "ornamental farm", his "parc du midi". It was re-designed after 1828 creating a spacious garden with meadows, trees and shrubbery and wonderful vistas. The view across the park to the Elbe from the garden room of the Jenisch-Haus, built between 1831 and 1834, is most impressive. It houses a museum of Hanseatic domestic life. On the first floor of this unpretentious but elegant building facing the Elbe runs a balcony which rests on four Doric pillars made of sandstone. Cast iron gold-plated railings enrich the house and adorn the windows and balcony.
At Seemannshöft we can see the vessel traffic service centre (the modern, low rise building) of the Hamburg Port Authority, as well as the historic Lotsenhaus (lit: pilot house). The open tidal harbour of Hamburg is covered by high-power radar stations and an Automatic Identification System for the identification of sea vessels, of which all the information is gathered at the vessel traffic service centre. The Hamburg Port Authority can thus impart information on particular traffic routes and mooring berths back to the ships, piloting them from the vessel traffic service centre. As a traffic control centre, it grants incoming ships entry to the harbour and issues them with mooring berths. Then the harbour pilots take over and accompany the ships to and from their assigned spots. The red-brick building is the operational building of c 75 harbour pilots. They and c 25 modern assistant tugboats with a bollard pull of up to 80 tons ensure the safe manoeuvring of the ocean giants along the quays and into navigable water on the Elbe.
