Statement by all German film funding organisations
01.12.2017 | Green turning
The CEOs of the film funding organisations at federal and state level discussed the topic of "green filming" in detail in an internal meeting in Munich on 24 November 2017 and formulated a joint statement.
Many Executive Producers are keen to produce environmentally friendly and climate-friendly films. However, it is still unclear in some cases whether the associated higher costs can be included in the calculation of subsidised films and are therefore eligible for funding.
The film funding organisations recognise approaches for sustainable production and thus make it clear that they also support the additional costs for "green filming" in terms of funding law.
However, "green turning" does not necessarily lead to higher costs. There are now developments and technologies that make it possible to work in a way that both conserves resources and saves costs. However, if additional costs are incurred as a result of environmentally friendly turning, these can be included in the calculation of manufacturing costs.
The funding institutions recognise these costs as part of their guidelines and co-finance them proportionately in the event of Fundings. This is already common practice today, but not all production companies are aware of it.
With this statement, the funding institutions would like to contribute to publicising and making their contribution to ensuring that environmentally and climate-friendly aspects can be given more and more consideration in film production.
