Open-air cinemas are all the rage: according to the FFA study "Special cinema formats", no other cinema format has added more screens since 2013 - this is also evident in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, especially in temperatures above 30 degrees: we've taken a look around for you and put together an open-air cinema guide for the coming weeks.

Zeise Open Air
THE classic in Hamburg Altona: In the picturesque inner courtyard of the Altona Town Hall, Zeise cinemas show a mix of arthouse films, current Oscar winners and numerous other specials year after year.

Ski jump cinema
An after-work beer on the Schanze in the open air + a selected film from the last few months = welcome to the Schanzenkino! Open-air cinema is especially fun on the 128 m² big screen.

Open-air cinema at the Rathausmarkt
It couldn't be more central: once again this year, cinema films from the past decades will be shown at Hamburg's Rathausmarkt at the beginning of August - many with a special focus on Hamburg!

Film nights at the Millerntor
Not only popular with Hamburg football fans: on the south stand of the Millerntor stadium, the 3001 cinema shows a selected programme ranging from current films to classics of film history.

Open-air summer cinema Alsterdorf
In Alsterdorf there is barrier-free open-air summer cinema with an inductive hearing system, subtitling for hearing-impaired viewers and audio description.

ElbFilmArt
Whether on the beach by the shipwrecks or on the Mühlenberg meadow - the organisers have gone in search of the most unusual spots along the Elbe for you. Old classics and more recent films will be shown.

Open-air cinema Filmclub Burgtheater Ratzeburg
The Burgtheater Ratzeburg is showing German and international cinema films in the open air at selected locations. A special highlight: on 10 August, the premiere of the new Borowski Tatort will be shown in Niendorf-Stecknitz before it is broadcast on television.

Beach cinema on the Niendorf open-air beach
The beach cinema is part of the "Coastal Cinema Tour" organised by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein. The focus is on films shot or subsidised in Schleswig-Holstein. Support for the local film scene!

Cinema under the Baltic sky in Travemünde
The big ships sail out of the harbour while you watch a few films on the beach - what more could you want? Action hits like "Avengers: Infinity War" meet local film gems à la "Wild Heart".

Pinneberg Open Air
Just outside Hamburg, the Pinneberg Open Air is once again showing three films for free on Drosteiplatz.

NORDEN "The Nordic Arts Festival" including Nordic Summer Cinema Open Air
An open-air cinema simply fits in anywhere - especially in the context of a festival: in beautiful Schleswig you can watch one or two concert highlights as well as rather unknown film gems by Nordic filmmakers.
