The Filmfest Hamburg has been in existence for 30 years and has established itself as one of the largest and most important German festivals for audiences and the film industry with a distinguished mix of arthouse, newcomer films and mainstream cinema. As a German premiere festival, Filmfest Hamburg emphasises its status within the national and international film world. The festival also sees itself as an important international stage for cultural exchange, with around 130 films in ten sections finding their way onto Hamburg screens every year. Both the "Industry Days" and the "Explorer Konferenz", which take place as part of the film festival, also offer industry professionals the opportunity to exchange ideas on topics relevant to the industry.

Filmfest Hamburg gGmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein GmbH, which, together with the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media, has found a successor for the management of Filmfest Hamburg for the first time.01.01.2024 initially for a period of 5 years is being sought. The successor should be appointed as early as01.08.2023 accompany the work of the current CEO within an appropriate framework that has yet to be agreed.

The director will be responsible for further profiling the Filmfest Hamburg concept and developing it in the context of a changing international film and festival landscape in the heart of the Free and Hanseatic City. To this end, it is essential that the successor is a communicative, strategically minded and resilient personality with a high degree of organisational and coordination talent.

Experience in the - preferably international - festival business is just as important as a broad network in the national and international film industry and at film festivals.

Furthermore, experience in dealing with authorities and supervisory bodies is essential, as is a very good command of written and spoken German and English and - ideally - at least one other foreign language.

The director has overall responsibility for curating, organising, financing and running the film festival. Together with a dedicated team of currently six permanent employees and around 35 freelancers during the film festival period, the management inspires loyal and potential cooperation partners and sponsors. They present the film festival as an attractive offer for the industry and a cultural highlight for the region and society in all its facets.
