Two MOIN-funded films will be represented at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival this year: Turkish Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has made it into the official competition with "About Dry Grasses", while the film "Déserts" by Faouzi Bensaïdi will be screened in the "Quinzaine des Cinéastes" section. Also taking part: up-and-coming Hamburg actress Pauline Pollmann and Kiel-based short filmmaker Eugenia Bakurin.
Some of you may recognise her from the Peppercorns or Großstadtrevier.Young Hamburg actress Pauline Pollmann will star in the opening film "Jeanne de Barry" alongside Johnny Depp and Director and leading actress Maïwenn. In addition, theKiel filmmaker Eugenia Bakurinwinner of the Short Tiger Award 2023, presented her short film "Long Time No Techno" in Cannes.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan already took home the Palme d'Or in 2014 and is once again a hot contender for one of the festival's main prizes this year with his drama 'About Dry Grasses'. A crazy road trip through Morocco comes from Director and Script Writer Faouzi Bensaïdi, whose film 'Déserts' will also celebrate its world premiere on the Côte d'Azur. We are keeping our fingers crossed for both productions!"
More about the film "About Dry Grasses" Directors Nuri Bilge Ceylan's new film is screening in the official competition section of the festival. The drama is a co-production between Turkey, France, Germany, Sweden and Qatar. The German co-producer is Komplizen Film, the script was written by Nuri Bilge Ceylan together with Aksu Akin and Ebru Ceylan. Part of the post production took place in Hamburg. The film follows Samet, a young teacher who is completing his fourth year of service in a remote village in Anatolia. When some events happen to him that he finds hard to comprehend, he loses hope of escaping the dreary life he seems to be stuck in. But meeting Nuray, who is a teacher herself, can help him overcome his fear...
More about the film "Déserts" Director, Script Writer, Editor and Actor: Moroccan-French filmmaker Faouzi Bensaïdi is a man of many talents. After his film "A Thousand Months" was shown in Cannes in 2003, his latest work "Déserts" is celebrating its world premiere this year in the "Quinzaine des Cinéastes" section. The German co-producer is NiKo Film. "Déserts" was shot entirely in Morocco and part of the post production took place in Hamburg. At the heart of the story are friends Mehdi and Hamid, who work for a pittance for a debt collection company. The two drive through the villages of southern Morocco in their old car and one day come across a man handcuffed to the luggage rack of a motorbike - the beginning of an unexpected journey.
