The Venice International Film Festival has announced its line-up: two films supported by MOIN have made it into the Orizzonti competition, whilst one will be screened in the ‘Out of Competition’ section.
The film A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra by Directors Jacqueline Lentzou and Script Writer Jacqueline Lentzou is a Greek-German-French co-production. The drama was co-produced by Kelek Film from Hamburg. The film centres on Jo: melancholic, wild and just 15 years old. She hardly dares to listen to the music she truly loves. But when Phaedra’s ethereal singing rings out, her heart skips a beat – and, quietly, everything begins to change. Between inhaling and exhaling, Jo writes a poem, cuts a rose for her moody mother as a gesture of reconciliation, and realises that the details of her dream from the previous night are slipping away. A day full of changes.
Also co-produced by Kelek Film in Hamburg was the Serbian protest drama Until the Day Ends by Jelena Maksimovi. In her feature film debut, she tells the story of Lena, an anarchist student involved in the anti-government protest movement in Belgrade, and Stefan, a young working-class man who finds himself, rather by chance, amongst the government’s loyal supporters.
Filmmaker Viktor Kossakovsky (“Gunda”) is back: he shot his new Documentary Holy Wood Dust in Hamburg, amongst other locations. The film offers a fresh perspective on the Christmas ritual: through breathtaking imagery, it reveals the hidden life and intelligence of trees – and, in doing so, the contradictions in our love of nature. The film is co-produced by Doppelplusultra Filmproduktion from Hamburg.
