GetOnSet trainee programme enters its second round

01.06.2023 | Application possible until 10 July 2023

Hamburg Media School, MOIN Film Fund and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg are jointly continuing the GetOnSet film trainee programme. Following the successful launch of the pilot project in 2022, the practical programme has proven to be an effective building block against the shortage of skilled workers in the film and series industry.

The GetOnSet film trainee programme offers career changers the opportunity to prepare specifically for professions such as unit manager, Sound Assistants or camera assistants. The programme is particularly aimed at professionals from other industries who wish to enter the world of film. Interested parties aged 25 and over can now register on theWebsite of the Hamburg Media School apply.

Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media:"The successful first year of the GetOnSet programme for skilled workers, which is unique in Germany, has shown that bold initiatives have an impact! It speaks in favour of Hamburg as a film and media location that so many different players are working together to set up such a successful project. The Ministry of Culture and Media, together with the Ministry of Social Affairs, is happy to support this programme in its second year in order to continue to actively tackle the shortage of skilled workers in the film industry and strengthen Hamburg as a film and media location."

Melanie Schlotzhauer, Senator for Labour, Health, Social Affairs, Family and Integration: "I am delighted that GetOnSet is now entering its second round. Like other sectors, the film industry is finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable staff. With the trainee programme, we are helping them to recruit career changers and prepare them for careers in film and series production. GetOnSet gives Hamburg residents who want to reorient themselves in the changing world of work the chance to develop completely new perspectives for themselves."

Helge Albers, CEO of MOIN Film Fund"The shortage of skilled labour in the film and series industry continues to be an issue that concerns us greatly. Due to increased production volumes, Executive Producers and service providers in Hamburg and throughout Germany are having great difficulty finding sufficiently qualified personnel for their shoots. However, the first round of GetOnSet has impressively shown that we are on the right track. 180 applications for 15 places - that's how we can continue in the second round."

The programme teaches practical skills to enable participants to make a successful transition into this exciting industry. During the ten months of the programme, participants work in one of the partner companies and gain practical experience. "On the one hand, the film industry is usually perceived as a closed shop that is difficult to enter - but on the other hand, there is a huge shortage of skilled workers in the industry. The GetOnSet programme offers a new entry opportunity for talented and motivated newcomers, regardless of their background or previous experience," saysUlrike Dobelstein-Lüthe, Head of Continuing Education at the Hamburg Media School.

In order to strengthen equal opportunities and offer all interested parties a fair chance to apply, applications will be anonymised this year. A special application tool has been set up on the HMS website for this purpose, which interested parties can use to apply without providing any personal information. The initiators thus guarantee an objective selection of participants in order to promote talent regardless of background or gender.

The closing date for applications is 10 July 2023 and the programme starts in October. Further information on the application requirements and the programme can be found on the officialWebsite of the Hamburg Media School.
