With 20 MOIN-funded productions at Filmfest Hamburg, there is something for everyone: binge-watchers can look forward to six episodes of "Schwarze Früchte", young film fans can immerse themselves in astronomical adventures and cineastes can enjoy numerous award-winning premieres. We have put together an overview of when and where you can see your favourites here.
Plot: In the centre of Hamburg, the discovery of an unexploded bomb from the Second World War not only leads to a far-reaching evacuation, but also to an interpersonal state of emergency. While the residents have to confront their long-suppressed fears and traumas, unforeseen connections develop in the midst of the chaos.

Plot: Day after day, Carl Kollhoff stands in the back room of a bookshop and carefully wraps books in paper to deliver them to his regular customers in the city. Books are the shy, taciturn man's greatest happiness. On one of his rounds, nine-year-old Schascha follows in his footsteps. Carl reluctantly gets involved with the girl, who from then on accompanies him on his errands and calls him the "book walker". Schascha quickly wins the hearts of his regular customers and persuades Carl to break out of his own world.

Plot: Selma, a young Script Writer from Sarajevo, has written a script in which she deals with her experiences as a refugee from the Bosnian war. But four weeks before the start of filming, the project is cancelled. While Selma drowns her frustration in alcohol, she neglects to inform all crew members about the cancellation of the shoot. This includes the actor Niklas, who has already arrived in Sarajevo and spontaneously decides to stay in the city. When he meets Selma by chance, two worlds collide. And a night full of chaos, joy and destruction begins.

Plot: 17-year-old Simon escapes from PE class and finds himself on the banks of a river with a group of teenagers. In the midst of air mattresses and pointless chatter, time slows down. Only when Marie turns up and both are catapulted into the nearby riverside forest by an unexpected incident do they escape the lethargic community and enter the timeless realm of the enchanted landscape.

Plot: Tom is 10 years old and a bit different - he thinks change is stupid, red things are really stupid and loud is not an option. Holidays with his siblings at grandma and grandpa's in the country are even worse! But Tom thinks space is great and his mum assures him: "If you can make it to Grandma and Grandad's, you can make it to Mars". So Tom takes on the mission, which goes anything but as planned, but during which he nevertheless encounters strange creatures and makes important discoveries.

Plot: Rami's girlfriend is pregnant. He doesn't want a child, she wants to keep it. His wealthy parents are in financial difficulties, but his mother simply ignores this and continues to plan a big family celebration unperturbed. Meanwhile, Miri, the sister of Rami's girlfriend, is preoccupied with her daughter, who is suffering from depression - and at the same time trying to dissuade her sister from Rami. When a minor car accident occurs, it doesn't seem to mean anything. But it is enough to gradually bring the fragile structure to collapse.

Plot: Niko's dream comes true! He gets to be part of Santa's reindeer troop with his father. But Stella suddenly turns up and competes for his place. Although the two compete against each other for the spot, they become friends. But then, on the day before Christmas, the sleigh is stolen! Christmas is in danger of being cancelled and only Niko can save the holiday.

Plot: After more than a decade, Rona returns to her home on the remote Orkney Islands. As she rediscovers the unique landscape in which she grew up, her childhood memories intermingle with the last, addiction-fuelled period. Her departure to the city at the time and the subsequent dissolute years in London ended in a painful crash. But little by little, the encounter with the harsh nature of the islands becomes an opportunity for a new life.

Plot: Where there is now a cinema, there used to be a delivery room. Katharina Pethke was born here. The Hamburg School of Art has since moved into the building, which is over 100 years old. Pethke studied here and worked as a professor; her mother and grandmother were also once students at the school. But their artistic work ended when their children came along. Katharina Pethke, herself a mother of two, looks through family albums and researches the university archives - and uncovers the patriarchal structures of the time-honoured academy layer by layer.

Plot: Iman has just been promoted to investigating judge at the Revolutionary Court in Tehran when a huge protest movement sweeps the country following the death of a young woman. Although the demonstrations are growing and the state is cracking down with increasingly harsh measures, Iman decides to side with the regime, upsetting the balance of his family. His daughters, in turn, are electrified by the events and his wife Najmeh desperately tries to keep everyone together. When Iman realises that his service weapon has disappeared, he suspects his family.

Plot: When Lalo is thrown off course by the unexpected death of his father, he tries to repress his loss - which not only throws his own life off course, but also those closest to him. Plot: Réda lives with his parents in a middle-class neighbourhood of Algiers. He holds a high position in Algeria's largest gas and oil company, which is run by his authoritarian father. Despite his position, Réda feels a deep sense of unease: he is unable to emancipate himself from his father - unlike his brother, who openly rebels. More and more often, Réda's frustration leads to increasingly violent outbursts. When his father dies, Réda makes a startling discovery: his reflection disappears.

Plot: Not only humans celebrate Christmas! In five fairytale stories from around the world, animals experience magical winter wonders.
