The children's film "Greetings from Mars" by Directors Sarah Winkenstette wins the Grimme Prize 2026 in the Children & Youth category. The film was largely shot in Schleswig-Holstein and
"Greetings from Mars" by Directors Sarah Winkenstette was awarded the Grimme Prize 2026 in the Children & Youth category.
The film tells the story of ten-year-old Tom, who lives on the autism spectrum and is supposed to spend the holidays with his grandparents in the countryside - a completely unfamiliar environment for him at first. This "new world" was filmed over 24 days in Appen, Schleswig-Holstein. The film and script were written by Hamburg-based Script Writer duo Sebastian Grusnick and Thomas Möller.
Greetings from Mars" was produced by Leitwolf Filmproduktion (Annette Unger, Sven Rudat) in co-production with NDR, KiKA and HR. The MOIN Film Fund supported the production with a sum of 480,000 euros.
