"Greetings from Mars" by Directors Sarah Winkenstette was awarded the Grimme Prize 2026 in the Children & Youth category.

The film tells the story of ten-year-old Tom, who lives on the autism spectrum and is supposed to spend the holidays with his grandparents in the countryside - a completely unfamiliar environment for him at first. This "new world" was filmed over 24 days in Appen, Schleswig-Holstein. The film and script were written by Hamburg-based Script Writer duo Sebastian Grusnick and Thomas Möller.

Greetings from Mars" was produced by Leitwolf Filmproduktion (Annette Unger, Sven Rudat) in co-production with NDR, KiKA and HR. The MOIN Film Fund supported the production with a sum of 480,000 euros.

A historical drama in black and white

"Rose" in the Berlinale competition

Austrian Director Markus Schleinzer has made a historical drama - without any pomp or opulent costumes. Set in the 17th century, it tells the story of a woman in trousers in black and white. For the filmmaker, this is a great medium for dealing with unifying themes. The fantastic Sandra Hüller plays the title character. Rose" celebrates its world premiere in the Berlinale Competition in mid-February. There's a bit of Hamburg in it too.

The Hamburg Senate and MOIN Film Fund invited the film industry to Tea Time at the Hamburg State Representation in Berlin on Saturday, 14 February, as part of the Berlinale. Among the guests were Shahrbanoo Sadat, Bruno Alexander, Laura Tonke, Aaron Hilmer, Doris Dörrie, Jeanette Hain and Merlin Sandmeyer.

8x MOIN at the Berlinale 2026

The North is strongly represented in the capital this year: no fewer than eight funded films have made it into the official programme of the 76th Berlinale from 12 to 22 February 2026. With the drama "Yellow Letters" by Oscar-nominated filmmaker İlker Çatak, which was shot in Hamburg, and "Rose" with leading actress Sandra Hüller, two funded films can be seen in the Competition.
