In 1969, after Soviet troops invade Prague, Jirka escapes to Hamburg in search of freedom. At the bustling city harbor, he works his way up from the barracks to a sales clerk for Russian tanker ships – the best source for five-liter tins of caviar. Together with his fellow guest worker friends, known as the Beluga Bunch, he starts selling their semi-illegal “Hafengold” to Hamburg’s high society. Based on true events, this is a warm comedy about family, friendship, love, and the longing for belonging.
