Francisco Grimaldi
Francisco Grimaldi (b. 1991) is an Italian filmmaker and documentarian with a deep connection to Kenya, where he has spent significant time over the past decade. In 2017, he founded the non-profit “InYourShoes” to support athletes from marginalized communities. His work focuses on stories of resilience, hope, and the everyday strength found across African communities.
The documentary THE GIRLS OF KIBERA follows two young best friends (Jennifer & Mercy, both 15 years old) attending their last year at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy, in Kibera—one of the world’s largest slums in Kenya—where soccer opens doors to education and hope. Through intimate portraits of daily struggles and triumphs, the film challenges stereotypes by revealing a vibrant community defined not only by poverty but by resilience, dreams, and the transformative power of friendship.
