Strengthening Script Writers
23.01.2017 | Start of new treatment funding programme
Script Writers can now apply for Fundings for the development of a treatment. The maximum funding amount is 10,000 euros and is awarded as a grant.
"With the new Fundings programme, we want to support Script Writers early and effectively in developing their ideas and give them creative and financial freedom," said Maria Köpf at the presentation during the firstmeet & mingle in the Betahaus Hamburg.
Writers who have completed their studies at a film academy in the fields of screenwriting or Directors as well as writers who have at least one realised and publicly exploited script are eligible to apply. "Our aim is to strengthen applicants from the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein region in particular. However, we are also open to exciting material set in our region," says Maria Köpf.
Applications can be submitted to the FFHSH six times a year on the dates of Committees 1 and 2. This makes the application process more flexible and shortens the time periods for the initial funding of material ideas. The CEO decides on the projects.
"Our main aim is to enter into dialogue with the Script Writers and to review the project idea for its suitability for cinema and its target audience" (Maria Köpf)
The new funding programme is aimed at both up-and-coming writers and experienced Script Writers and, in addition to financial support, also includes an initial dramaturgical consultation at the beginning of the project and a final editing of the written treatment. The amount of funding depends on the applicant's professional experience and is awarded on a sliding scale. In particular, work in a team with a co-author, Director or Executive Producer is also taken into account.
Script Writers with a degree (screenwriting or Directors) or young professionals who have written at least one screenplay for a feature-length film that has been publicly screened will receive 3,100 euros in funding, and 5,100 euros for three or more scripts that have been written and screened. Script Writers who submit as a team with a Producer or Director will receive 3,600 euros for two scripts written for feature-length films that have been publicly evaluated and 5,600 euros for three or more feature films. A team of writers can receive 5,100 euros for two films and 8,100 to a maximum of 10,000 euros for three or more films.
