The Oscar may have remained just a dream for the time being, but Maren Ade'sToni Erdmann this weekend with theFilm Independent Spirit Award as best international film.
After the spectacular premiere in competition at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival, numerous awards, including the European Film Award and a nomination for the Golden Globe, Komplizen Film ProduktionToni Erdmann has now been crowned with the Independent Spirit Award for "Best International Film".
"Unfortunately, our subsidised filmsToni Erdmann andLand of Mine came away empty-handed at the Oscars. After the high expectations, this is of course disappointing, especially forToni Erdmannwhich was honoured with the Independent Spirit Award the day before," says Maria Köpf. "We are proud that both productions have made it this far, a real honour for Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein as a film location! And: Maren AdesToni Erdmann is the winner of our hearts and the public, with over 800,000 visitors to date. That's great!"
Director of Photography Patrick Orth and Production Designer Silke Fischer are two Hamburg residents in key positions in the film, which the FFHSH supported with 100,000 euros in production.
