At the most important documentary film festival in North America, theHot Docs in Toronto, six films and co-productions will represent filmmaking from Germany at the end of April, including the funded projectPre-Crime.

Pre-Crime by Matthias Heeder and Monika Hielscher (Kloos & Co. Medien) celebrates its world premiere at Hot Docs as a Special Presentation, a section that shows high-profile premieres, award-winning films or works by well-known Directors.

The plot ofPre-Crime reads like a science fiction novel and is the fulfilment of an old police officer's dream: being at the scene of the crime before the perpetrator. Prevention is based on metadata that is scanned by secret algorithms for patterns and connections and predicts the time and place of possible crimes. With Pre-Crime, the Hamburg filmmakers are following the development of people from holders of inalienable basic rights to holders of unmistakable data. Committee 2 has supported the project with 85,000 euros.

Hot Docs takes place from 27 April to 7 May in Toronto.
