The international film festival in Cannes has two Hamburg-funded films in its programme: Fatih Akin from Hamburg is the only German Director who can hope to win a Palme d'Or.
Akin's thrillerInto the fate starring Diane Krüger, is screening in the international competition at Cannes. In the "Un Certain Regard" section, the international co-productionEn Attendant Les Hirondelles by Karim Moussaoui.

Congratulations also to Karim Moussaoui, who has found his way straight to the Croisette with his first feature film."
In his thrillerInto the fate Fatih Akin returns to films likeAgainst the wall. Into the fate of Katja, her life is shattered: Her husband and son die in a bomb attack. The police catch two suspects: a young neo-Nazi couple. Katja wants justice - there is no alternative for her. Most of the filming took place in Hamburg. Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein supported the production with 500,000 euros and it was realised by Akin's production company Bombero International.
The international productionEn Attendant Les Hirondelles by Karim Moussaoui (Niko Film, funded with 80,000 euros) is set in today's Algeria: three stories paint a contrasting picture of a country torn between the burden of tradition and the pursuit of modernity. Moussaoui is one of the few Algerian filmmakers and thus an important voice for the country. Post production of the drama is currently taking place in Hamburg.
The70th Cannes International Film Festival will take place from 17 to 28 May 2017. This year, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein will once again be represented at the joint stand ofFocus Germanythe association of German film funding organisations, andGerman Films in the International Village.
