Talents wanted for Documentary Camp in Norway
23.03.2018 | Lofoten Docs
A call for young documentary filmmakers from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein: Until 9 April, the Screen Talent Europe network is looking for Directors, Executive Producers or Editors between the ages of 18 and 30 who would like to take part in an international documentary camp in Lofoten, Norway, from 5 to 19 July 2018.
A workshop in a dreamlike setting: From 5 to 19 July, the "Lofoten Docs" will take place on the Lofoten Islands in Norway. The two-week workshop is aimed at young filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 30 who have already gained experience in the field of short documentaries and want to deepen this in an international environment.
What happens on site The participants come from different countries in Europe and are divided into four groups of three participants each. Together they will produce four short Documentaries within 14 days. They will be supported by professional workshop leaders and filmmakers.
The camp takes place on the Lofoten Islands, a group of islands off the coast of northern Norway. Particularly impressive: at this time of year, the midsummer sun shines almost 24 hours a day. The area is sparsely populated with small fishing villages. Participants are encouraged to look at the social environment of Lofoten from the perspective of change and to find stories that address this theme (e.g. history/past vs present/future, young vs old, local vs global). The aim is to explore the connections between people and their surroundings and to discover what keeps them in this place or makes them want to leave it.
Timetable 05.07.18: Arrival in Kabelvåg (overnight stay at Lofoten Hostel Kabelvåg) 06.07.18 - 09.07.18: Workshop, research, idea development and open seminar 10.07.18 - 13.07.18: Research and production 14.07.18 - 17.07.18: Cut 18.07.18 - 19.07.18: Conclusion and departure The first four days will be spent discussing, researching and gathering inspiration - a good opportunity for the participants to get to know each other better. We would also like to encourage participants to do some research on Lofoten and the surrounding area in advance.
Who leads the workshops Hans Eirik Voktor is the workshop leader for the first week and will be available for daily talks and group discussions. Voktor works as a lecturer at the University of Stavanger, where he teaches storytelling, documentary and television production. The editing workshop will be led by Anniken Hoel. She is a Norwegian Script Writer, Director and Photographer. Hoel has realised short film and documentary projects in the Middle East, India, USA and Europe. She normally works in Berlin and Tromsø, where she runs her production company Manifesto Film.
