Cannes Classics shows Ingmar Bergman homage

As the festival announced last Thursday, the animated filmAnother Day of Life in the official Cannes programme. "We are very proud that the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein film region is represented in Cannes with the animated film Another Day of Life and send our congratulations to the teams from Wüste Film and Animationsfabrik. The invitation to Cannes shows: Hamburg is and remains a strong centre for animation. The docu-drama about the Angolan civil war from the perspective of a war reporter is impressive proof of the wide artistic range that animated film has to offer," says Köpf.

More about the films: Ingmar Bergman and Margarethe von Trotta meet in person in Munich in 1977. Both were at a key moment in their lives: Bergman was at a turning point after his tax evasion from Sweden, von Trotta at the beginning of her career as a young filmmaker. Now, 40 years later and after 24 of her own films, she is dedicating herself to Bergman in a cinematic search for traces. There is still great respect for approaching her master. Nevertheless, in In Search of Ingmar Bergman, the filmmaker embarks on a very personal journey through Bergman's universe, his films and his life. The film was produced by C-Films (Germany). Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein supported the film with 100,000 euros for project development and production.

The animated film Another Day of Life by Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow will celebrate its world premiere in Cannes in the Official Selection Out of Competition - Special Screening. The film is the gripping story of a three-month journey by the famous Polish reporter Ryszard Kapuściński through war-torn Angola. In "Another Day of Life", the Directors skilfully interweave animation with documentary images. The film is a production of Platige Films (Poland) and Kanaki Films (Spain), with Walking the Dog (Belgium) and the Hamburg-based companies Wüste Film and Animationsfabrik involved as co-producers. The production was made in cooperation with NDR/ARTE and was supported by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein with 350,000 euros, with distribution handled by Pandora Film.

To the film festival in Cannes: The 71st Cannes International Film Festival will take place from 8 to 19 May 2018. This year, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein will once again be present at the joint stand of "Focus Germany", the association of the seven German film funding organisations, and "German Films" in the International Village.
