25.04.2018 | German-Danish film initiative continued
Following a successful test phase, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and the Danish Film Institute (DFI) have continued their collaboration and expanded the programme to include animation projects. The first German-Danish feature film in this series, "In Love and War", will be released in cinemas in November.
Maria KöpfCEO of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein: "Denmark is one of the most important partners for the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein region. This applies not only to politics and business, but also to the creative film scene. With the continuation of ourGerman-Danish development initiative we want to bring filmmakers from both regions even closer together and intensify the development of joint material."
Claus LadegaardCEO of the Danish Film Institute: "Kasper Torsting's 'In Love and War', the first film in this series, tells a common story from the First World War. It shows in the best possible way the potential of co-operation between our two countries. Now that the agreement has been extended to animated films, hopefully even more filmmakers will benefit from the strengthened German-Danish film relations."
The Danish Film Institute and Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein signed a development agreement in 2014 to strengthen cooperation between Danish and German Executive Producers in the development of joint projects. The agreement, which originally began for a trial period of three years, has now been extended. Since 2016, joint documentary film projects have also been eligible for funding. With the latest extension, German-Danish collaborations in the animated film sector are now also supported.
The first projectIn Love and War was funded in 2015. The melodrama by Kasper Torsting is based on true events and is the first film to deal with the history of Denmark and Germany during the First World War. Filmed on the border between the two countries in the southern part of Jutland and in and around Flensburg, the melodrama will be released in Danish cinemas on 15 November 2018 - around one hundred years after the end of the war.
More about the German-Danish initiative: The FFHSH and the DFI launched the "German-Danish Coproduction Development Initiative" in August 2014. Up to three fictional or documentary feature films of high artistic quality for cinema release in at least Denmark and Germany are supported with a maximum of 35,000 euros per year. Applications must be submitted by one German Executive Producer from Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein and one Danish partner.
The aim is to provide financial support to creative people from Denmark and Germany at an early stage and to give them time to develop the content of their projects together.
