Claudia Lehmann's DocumentaryThe symphony of uncertainty(Tamtam Film, Hamburg) celebrates its world premiere in the German Competition at Dok Leipzig 2018. Together with composer Konrad Hempel, the filmmaker explores the meaning of life in our complex world. They receive help from Prof Gerhard Mack, an expert in elementary particle physics who worked at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg for many years. In very personal conversations with hypnotherapist Rosemarie Dypka and filmmaker Hark Bohm, who play the dual role of common sense, the physicist acts as translator of his theories. Another world premiere is the Schleswig-Holstein filmThe donkey's name was Geronimo (Lo-Fi Films, Switzerland) by Bigna Tomschin and Arjun Talwar. The story centres on the Great Ox Island in the Baltic Sea. A dreamy little place, but where a large part of the population has developed island fever in recent years - and left the island. But nobody has got over the place and what happened there. The island is a topic of conversation, a gnawing void and a throbbing wound. In the International Programme, Director Bettina Borgfeld poses the questionWhat does the world cost(Filmtank, Hamburg) and visits the Channel Island "Sark" to the west of Normandy - Europe's last feudalistically organised spot. After the 600 islanders lived according to autonomous rules for centuries, the small island has become the scene of an almost abstruse media, financial and conquest war in recent years. The trigger: two billionaire brothers began buying up the island piece by piece. The two filmmakers Georgi Bogdanov and Boris Missirkov set out inPalace for the people (Filmtank, Hamburg) will go in search of five buildings from the socialist era: massive stone structures, their façades and interiors, their spatial organisation and furnishings, their decor and functionality always aimed at representing political systems and values. In addition, there will be a retrospective of films by Lutz Dammbeck, in which the sponsored films will be shown under the motto "Outlines of Power".The master game,Overgames andThe net. Unabomber, LSD & Internalt be shown.
