
Fatih Akin in the Berlinale Competition

Directors Fatih Akin can hope to win a Golden Bear with his horror film "The Golden Glove". The festival management announced today that the film will be screened in competition at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival.

We are incredibly proud of this Hamburg filmmaker and the crew around him. Our congratulations go to the teams at bombero international and Warner Bros. This is the second time since 'Into the Fate' that both Hamburg-based companies have worked together successfully with the support of film funding. 'The Golden Glove' is a complete Hamburg project: from Fritz Honka's story to Heinz Strunk's novel to production, Directors and of course the pub on Hamburger Berg."

More about the film: Fatih Akin's filmThe Golden Glove is based on the novel of the same name by Heinz Strunk and was filmed entirely in Hamburg in the summer. It tells the story of wife-killer Fritz Honka and his favourite pub "Zum goldenen Handschuh", where German pop songs move people to tears and booze is supposed to help against longing and pain.
The role of Honka is played by Jonas Dassler, who has already been seen on the screens of the Berlinale this year in Lars Kraume's "The Silent Classroom" (Akzente Film- und Fernsehproduktion). He was honoured as best up-and-coming actor at the 2018 Bavarian Film Awards.
The Golden Glove" was produced by Akin's company bombero international in co-production with Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany and Pathé. The Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein subsidised the project with 750,000 euros.
"The Golden Glove" will be released in cinemas on 21 February 2019 in distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures. The Match Factory will distribute the film worldwide.
