Lots of competition and a look back
29.01.2019 | Berlinale 2019
In February, the eyes of the film world will be on Berlin: The international film industry will meet for the 69th time in the capital from 7 to 17 February. The FFHSH is represented with 21 subsidised projects. With Fatih Akin's horror film "Der Goldene Handschuh" and Nora Fingscheidt's "Systemsprenger", two funded films are screening in the competition.
Fatih AkinsThe Golden Glove (bombero int./Warner Bros., Hamburg), based on the novel of the same name by Heinz Strunk, is celebrating its premiere in competition at the Berlinale. The film was shot entirely in Hamburg in summer 2018. Shooting star Jonas Dassler, who is barely recognisable in his mask, slips into the role of wife-killer Fritz Honka.
Directors and Script Writer Nora Fingscheidt also made it into the competition with her debut filmSystem sprinkler (Weydemann Bros./Oma Inge Film/kineo Filmproduktion). Helena Zengel plays nine-year-old Benni, who drives her fellow human beings to despair and is kicked out of every foster family after a very short time. With over 35 days of filming, the majority of the shoot took place in Hamburg in early 2018. The multi-award-winning script was honoured with the Emden Screenplay Award 2016, among others.
InAll My Loving (Port au Prince Film & Kultur Produktion/Pandora Film Produktion), Directors Edward Berger takes us into the turbulent lives of the Hoffmann siblings in the Berlinale Panorama. The film stars Lars Eidinger, Hans Löw and Nele Mueller-Stöfen, who also co-wrote the script with Berger. Filming took place in 2018 on the outskirts of Hamburg in Wedel, among other locations.
InBeauty and transience (it works!), filmmaker Annekatrin Hendel follows the Berlin icon Sven Marquardt and two of his companions from the East Berlin punk era, whose careers are characterised by their artistic view of the world. The film was funded by the Filmwerkstatt Kiel and is screening in the Panorama section of the Berlinale.
Directors Bernd Schoch made it into the Berlinale Forum with his DocumentaryOlanda (Fünferfilm, Hamburg), which tells the story of some mushroom pickers in the southern Carpathian Mountains of Romania, most of whose mushrooms are sold abroad for many times the price - a juxtaposition of microcosm and international economic structures.
