Another Hamburg film at the Berlinale: Executive Producer and new Hamburg resident Farzad Pak's film "District Terminal" is screening in the "Encounters" competition. Pak previously produced "There is no evil" - a drama that won Mohammad Rasoulof the Golden Bear in 2020.
With the founding of his new production company PakFilm, Farzad Pak was able to complete the film "District Terminal" from Hamburg with the support of film funding. The FFHSH funded the completion of the film with 35,000 euros.
Farzad Pak, Executive Producer of PakFilm"I am very grateful that I can set up my company PakFilm here in Hamburg. The cultural authorities, foundations and many people in Hamburg have been extremely helpful and hospitable. This is a great motivation for my work. Hamburg offers filmmakers a highly professional infrastructure, which makes the city a strong centre of attraction for film producers and production companies from all over the world."
Farzad Pak's next project "I Was Home When I Got There" is to be shot in Hamburg and Iran this year. Directors Mahnaz Mohammadi was already represented at Filmfest Hamburg in 2020 with the drama "Son - Mother".
Helge Albers, CEO of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-HolsteinThe renewed Berlinale invitation for Farzad Pak is a great success! The films he produces need the big screen and an international audience. We are very pleased that Farzad Pak is now firmly part of the Hamburg film scene. Our thanks also go to Albert Wiederspiel from FILMFEST HAMBURG, who has supported him for years."
More about the film: At the centre of the film "District Terminal" is Peyman, a poet who lives with his mother in a high-rise housing estate in Tehran. Caught up in his drug addiction, poverty and a forbidden love affair, he tries to survive his delusions and increasing loneliness despite censorship. His path to redemption leads him through an imaginary world in which environmental destruction and an ongoing state of emergency mirror today's Iran. The film is the directorial debut of Bardia Yadegari and Ehsan Mirhosseini, produced by PakFilm. Paris-based MPM Premium has taken over world sales.
Other funded films at the Berlinale 2021: In addition to "District Terminalanother five FFHSH-funded filmsand a Hamburg production have made it into the Berlinale programme: Tim Fehlbaum's science fiction drama "Tides" will celebrate its world premiere as a Berlinale Special, while Maria Schrade's "Ich bin dein Mensch" will be screened in the Competition. Viewers can also look forward to an anti-fascist vampire comedy with Julian Radlmaier's "Bloodsuckers". Three subsidised productions will be screened in Panorama: Monika Treut's "Genderation", the drama "Human Factors" by Ronny Trocker and "Die Welt wird eine andere sein (Copilot)" by Anne Zohra Berrached.
