Is it Christmas already? In its second meeting of 2021, the High End Committee of MOIN Film Fund Hamburg will award around 1.5 million euros to 14 projects - including the animated adventure "Niko's Arctic Adventure" produced in Hamburg and a diving thriller that will be shot in the film water tank "Offtec" in Schleswig-Holstein, among other locations. The Nordbuster Committee is also funding two scripts with 50,000 euros each.
Directors Jørgen Lerdam and Kari Juusonen take reindeer boy Niko on his third film adventure.Niko's Arctic Adventure (500,000 euros, Ulysses Filmproduktion, Hamburg), the title character is officially supposed to become part of Santa's flying squad. But everything changes when Emma appears out of nowhere and challenges Niko for the place he has long dreamed of. The animated film will be produced in Hamburg by Ulysses Filmproduktion. The script was written by Hannu Tuomainen, Kari Juusonen and Marteinn Thorisson.
Directors and Script Writer Lars Kraume ("The Silent Classroom") takes a closer look in his new feature filmA place in the sun (300,000 euros, zero one film, Berlin) deals with the genocide of the Herero and Nama in the former colony of German South West Africa. In 1905, a German ethnologist travels through the colony and crosses every moral boundary in his search for a Herero woman for whom he has developed an obsessive passion. The soundtrack to the film comes from the Hamburg composer duo Kaiser Maas ("3 Tage in Quiberon"). Daniel Brühl, Lars Eidinger and Girley Charlene Jazama play the leading roles in the historical drama.
Further production funding is available for the survival thrillerThe Dive (150,000 euros, Augenschein Filmproduktion, Cologne) by Maximilian Erlenwein. The cinema film starring Sophie Lowe and Louisa Krause will stop off at the Offtec film water tank in Schleswig-Holstein for around a week. In the thriller, a dive at one of the most remote spots in the world becomes a fight for survival for sisters Drew and May. Erlenwein wrote the script together with Joachim Hedén. 100,000 euros in production fundingThe silent satellites (Sommerhaus Filmproduktion, Ludwigsburg) by Thomas Stuber. The film, based on a novel by Clemens Meyer ("In den Gängen"), interweaves the stories of a snack bar owner, a security guard and a woman from the railway cleaning service. Directors Stuber wrote the script together with Clemens Meyer.
Fundings for project development are available for four projects: The Fantasy SeriesAlea Aquarius (100,000 euros, Red Balloon Film, Hamburg) by Directors Jan Matthys and Script Writer Maria von Heland is to be shot largely in the subsidised region and is based on a series of books for young people by Tanya Stewner. The animated filmThe Heinzels 2 (60,000 euros, Akkord Film Produktion, Hamburg), directed by Hamburg-based Ute von Münchow-Pohl, picks up where its predecessor left off - Script Writer is Jan Strathmann. 50,000 euros go to the sci-fi dramedy seriesThe very near future (Tatami Films, Hamburg) by Hamburg-based Script Writer Sebastian Egert, which has already been pitched as part of the Series Lab Hamburg. In addition, the animation projectGo with the Floh (30,000 euros, Little Dream Entertainment, Hamburg) by the two Script Writers Ali Samadi Ahadi and Arne Nolting, who have already written the award-winning script for "Peterchens Mondfahrt".
To Hark Bohm's new autobiographical projectAmrum (bombero international, Hamburg) will receive 35,000 euros in screenplay funding. Further support will be given toBird of the Year (MotionWorks, 30,000 euros, Halle/Saale) by the Hamburg animation duo Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein,To be or not to be (25,000 euros, B/14 Film, Hamburg) by Script Writer Klaus Pohl and co-writer Joachim Meyerhoff, who is also the Director, andPrey children (20,000 euros), the new series project by Hamburg-based Julia Drache ("Watu Wote").
The Nordbuster Committee of the MOIN Film Fund has also supported two other scripts: The literary adaptation set in the neighbourhood of the 60sGreat freedom (50,000 euros, Heimathafen Film, Hamburg) by the writing team Sönke Andresen and Marc Brummund, based on a novel by Rocko Schamoni, and the escape room comedyFamily Escape (Tamtam Film, 50,000 euros, Hamburg) by Hamburg-based Script Writers Anja Gurres and Manuel Ostwald.

TheHigh End Committee is responsible for films and series with production costs of over 3.5 million euros. The funding decision was made on 26 May by Christian Granderath, Murat Isgüder, Wenka von Mikulicz, Caroline von Senden, Ipek Zübert and Helge Albers.
TheNordbuster Committee is responsible for films that are of particular cultural and economic importance to the region. The annual funding sum of one million euros is provided by Warner Bros. in the form of a trust fund. The funding decision was made on 28 May by Maike Haas, Benjamina Mirnik-Voges and Peter Preisser.
