3x MOIN on the shortlist
09.09.2021 | European Film Awards 2021

The first batch of shortlist films has been released: And with "Gaza Mon Amour", "The Other Side Of The River" and "Les Enfants Terrible", three MOIN-funded films can hope to be nominated for the European Film Awards.
"Gaza Mon Amour", which was shown at last year's Venice International Film Festival, has been shortlisted for the European Film Award in the FEATURE FILM section. The romantic comedy by Gaza-born Directors Arab and Tarzan Nasser was co-produced by Hamburg-based Riva Filmproduktion. The colour grading and visual effects also come from Hamburg and were realised by Post Republic. What is it about? In "Gaza Mon Amour", the fisherman Issa finds an ancient statue of the god Apollo in his fishing net. As a result, events take a turn for the worse and the fisherman's love for the divorced market vendor Sihamim is not the only thing to gain momentum.

In the DOCUMENTARY section, the two MOIN-funded films "Les Enfants Terrible" and "The Other Side Of The River" have made it onto the shortlist of the European Film Awards. In his first feature film "Les Enfants Terrible", Director Ahmet Necdet Cupur approaches the conflict between generations and values in Turkish society from a very personal perspective. He accompanies his brother Mahmut and his sister Zeynep with his camera, whose striving for independence is met with incomprehension and rejection in their traditional parental home. Hamburg-based Executive Producer Anke Petersen is involved in the realisation of the French-Turkish-German co-production.
"The Other Side Of The River" by Director Antonia Kilian was made in collaboration with the Hamburg production company Doppelplusultra. The 19-year-old Hala is at the centre of the directorial debut, for which Kilian lived in Syria for over a year. Hala flees her arranged marriage from her hometown in north-east Syria to the other side of the River Euphrates. There she joins a Kurdish women's defence unit. When Kurdish fighters liberate Hala's hometown from IS, she also returns to save her sister.
