Lagerhaus G celebrates its world premiere on 24 April at Metropolis Kino Hamburg

It's THE week for all North German documentary film fans: from 20 to 24 April, the documentary film week hamburg will be showing the works of numerous Hamburg and international filmmakers in 36 screenings. A central theme of the current festival edition will be the (late) aftermath of war.

The documentary film week has been enriching the cultural programme of the Hanseatic city since 2004 and offers a forum for exchange between national and international filmmakers and cineastes. As in previous years, most of the filmmakers of the films shown will be guests. In view of the war in Ukraine, the central theme is the cinematic examination of the consequences of war. The curated films include "The First 54 Years - An Abbreviated Manual for Military Occupation" by Israeli Documentary filmmaker Avi Mograbi and "Rampart" by Directors Marko Grba Singh, whose film deals with the war in Kosovo.

An important part of the festival profile this year is once again Hamburg's documentary film scene, whose works will be presented under the label "DOKLAND HAMBURG". The following works have made it into this year's programme:

Warehouse G The film deals with the history of a building from the Wilhelminian era on Dessauer Ufer near Kleiner Grasbrook - and some of the people associated with it. From 1944, the building served as accommodation for concentration camp prisoners and forced labourers and later as a warehouse. A legal dispute between its owner and the Hamburg Port Authority over its future fate has been ongoing for years. (World premiere, Metropolis, 24.04. 15.30, guest Markus Fiedler).

The mountain that doesn't exist The focus is on the history of Heine Street in St Pauli, which was renamed by the Nazis and is now famous as "Hamburger Berg". (B-Movie, Sunday, 24 April, 1.00 pm, guests are Leonid Kharlamov, Michael Steinhauser).

Comrade Tito, I inherit The debut film by HFBK-Hamburg graduate Olga Kosanović deals with the history of her family (some of whom emigrated from Serbia) and the concepts of identity and homeland with great ease. (Metropolis, 22.04, 14.00, guest Olga Kosanović. In the double programme with "FRAUENFRAGMENTE: Gini und Resi" guest Sophie Gmeiner and Simon Dallaserra).
