220,000 euros for Hamburg cinemas
21.06.2022 | Hamburg cinema awards 2022
Back to normality: for the first time since 2019, the Hamburg Cinema Awards were presented live and in colour on 21 June. Culture Senator Dr Carsten Brosda honoured 17 arthouse and district cinemas as well as initiatives for the 2021 programme year at Kampnagel. Due to the pandemic, the prize money was more than doubled again this year to a total of 220,000 euros from Corona funds.
There were also two special prizes at the award ceremony in the Alabama cinema at Kampnagel: These went to the joint cinema initiative "Eine Stadt sieht einen Film" and to the format "A Wall is A Screen".
Dr Carsten BrosdaSenator for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg: "With the cinema awards, we not only celebrate the great cinema scene in Hamburg every year, but also the extremely good cooperation with the cinema industry and film funding. It is also thanks to this shared belief in the power of cinema and a fantastic commitment that we are able to celebrate anniversaries such as 20 years of Koralle and 35 years of B-Movie this year, despite the difficult corona period. With this year's award ceremony, we are also celebrating the resurgence of cinema love. We have doubled the prize money again this year from Corona funds. Together, we want to secure the future of the individual cinemas and Hamburg's cinema landscape in all its diversity."
Helge AlbersCEO of MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein: "After two very draining years of the pandemic, cinemas are gradually fighting their way back onto the map. All cinema operators were very active during the lockdown periods, putting energy into their online presence or upgrading their technology to make it more sustainable. I am delighted that we are now able to support them again by doubling cinema prices. A rich programme year awaits us in 2022!"
Film producer and Director Lars Jessen ("Mittagsstunde", "Fraktus", "Dorfpunks"), cinema operator Verena von Stackelberg (Wolf Kino, Berlin) and Hamburg film journalist Britta Schmeis decided on the winners of this year's Hamburg Cinema Awards. The three industry experts form the current cinema award jury.
The Hamburg Cinema Awards are presented annually by the Ministry of Culture and Media together with MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein. Hamburg's arthouse and district cinemas as well as initiatives are honoured for the previous programme year.
