31 cinemas in the country honoured
14.09.2022 | 12th Schleswig-Holstein Cinema Prize
The twelfth Schleswig-Holstein Cinema Prize was awarded at the Astra-Filmtheater Plön on Tuesday evening.
The State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Training, Science, Research and CultureGuido Wendt emphasised the importance of cinemas as places of culture and meeting places at the distribution ceremony: "Cinemas are much more than just places to watch films. In rural areas in particular, they are often important cultural venues that not only bring people closer to film, but also provide a great stage for other art and cultural events. Whether it's a blockbuster or an art house - our film theatres provide something to talk about and make people think." In order to maintain this cultural space even after the pandemic, the state has increased the 2022 cinema prize to 100,000 euros. "This year's prize is more than just praise and thanks to committed programme creators. Above all, it is a plea for the cinema as a place where the art of film can be celebrated on the big screen and enjoyed together."
The CEO of MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein,Helge Albers expressed his delight: "The cinema operators in Schleswig-Holstein have faced the consequences of the pandemic in recent months with a great deal of creativity, perseverance and passion. I am therefore all the more pleased that the state of Schleswig-Holstein is honouring this special commitment by doubling the cinema awards to over 100,000 euros and helping the cinemas in a still tense economic situation. But I am optimistic about the future, because we can look forward to a cinema autumn with numerous film highlights such as 'Mittagsstunde' and 'Tausend Zeilen'. So: off to the cinema!"
The Cinema Prize jury met at the end of July and awarded a total of 31 prizes. The jury is made up of a representative of the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Culture, a representative of MOIN Film Fund Hamburg, freelance filmmaker and Executive Producer Ann Carolin Renninger, Bernd-Günther Nahm, former director of the Filmwerkstatt, and Martin Aust, CEO of Kinemathek Hamburg e.V.
