At its current meeting, the Director's Cut Committee of the MOIN Film Fund awarded more than 2.8 million euros to 27 projects - including the series "Black Fruits" by showrunner and actor Lamin Leroy Gibba and the drama "Optimism" by Hamburg filmmaker Steffen Goldkamp - both projects will be produced entirely in the funding region in summer 2023.
FUNDINGS PRODUCTION
Directors and Script Writer Steffen Goldkamp from Hamburg will spend a total of 60 days filming in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein from July 2023. After David inThe optimism (500,000 euros, Tamtam Film, Hamburg) has served a juvenile prison sentence, his regained freedom smells mainly of the corridors of the German authorities. Frustration and lethargy soon supersede good intentions and he gradually gets caught up in the maelstrom of a series of robberies. The script for the film has already been supported as part of the 3x3 Incentive funding from MOIN Film Fund. The film is largely shot with non-professional actors.
In the seriesBlack fruits (450,000 euros, Studio Zentral & Jünglinge Film, Hamburg) by lead actor and creator Lamin Leroy Gibba, centres on the life of Lalo, a black, queer man in his mid-twenties. When he is thrown off course by the sudden death of his father, he tries to repress his loss by rushing into action - which not only throws his own life out of joint, but also the lives of his closest friends. The dramedy series will have 46 shooting days in Hamburg and 2 shooting days in Schleswig-Holstein and will be realised almost exclusively with BIPoC both in front of and behind the camera. Lamin Leroy Gibba wrote the script together with co-authors Lisa Tracy Michalik, Naomi Kelechi Odhiambo, Sarah Claire Wray and Sophia Ayissi. Directors are David Uzochukwu and Elisha Smith-Leverock. Executive Producer is the company Jünglinge Film ("Futur Drei"). Shooting starts in August 2023.
A further 450,000 euros will go toBefore the beginning (Riva Filmproduktion, Hamburg) by Directors and Script Writer duo Constantin Hatz and Milena Aboyan. There are 16 days of filming planned in Hamburg and four in Schleswig-Holstein this summer.
A series project comes from the Schleswig-Holstein Director and Script Writer Hilke Rönnfeldt: InMooring(405,000 euros, Leitwolf Filmproduktion, Hamburg) is about ship's officer Malika, who is sent to the small lock in Bremen as a test of her mettle by her captain after an incident on board for which she is responsible. The series is supported by NDR and nordmedia as part of the Nordlichter young talent programme. WithShadow(400,000 euros, Wüste Film, Hamburg), Directors Benjamin Teske devotes himself to the genre film: a young woman fighting for her life falls in love with a vampire who longs for death.
