The Abaton Cinema has been one of the first arthouse cinemas in Germany, opened in 1970. The cinema is located in the heart of Hamburg, in the surroundings of the University of Hamburg.

On Grindelallee, slightly detached from the street, the Mineralogical Museum of the University of Hamburg is situated. The nostalgic looks inside the show rooms with 1950s appeal characterise this location. The museum spreads over two levels which are visible through the open ceiling. It shows the most beautiful gemstones and crystals in its display boxes which are mostly framed by timber panels.

The ethnological museum, built between 1907 and 1911 and extended in 1929, has an asymmetrical layout. It consists of grand halls with pillars and reinforced concrete ceilings and has excellent bright spaces like those of a shipping company´s office. The pompous facade and the marble entrance hall stand for the wealth of foreign countries exploited by Hamburg. Foreign cultures and traditions are exhibited in the museum.

The Hamburg Messe (fair grounds of Hamburg) is a full-service-provider around the organisation and the execution of national and international fairs and congresses. The fair grounds are based in the city centre, next to the television tower, between the Karolinenstrasse and the St. Petersburger Strasse. It is linked with the congress centre of Hamburg which is beeing remodeled and will reopen 2020.
