Film women from the north on the Croisette

The world's most important film festival has begun again and the North is represented at the Croisette by high-calibre female filmmakers: Directors Shahrbanoo Sadat and Lübeck-based Executive Producer Katja Adomeit are screening their drama "The Orphanage" in the "Quinzaine des Réalisateurs" section, while Fatih Akin's producer Nurhan Şekerci-Porst is on the prestigious "Un Certain Regard" jury.

Shahrbanoo Sadats DramaThe Orphanage - produced by the Lübeck-basedKatja Adomeit - celebrates its world premiere at the festival in the "Quinzaine des Réalisateurs" section. The film team spent around five days shooting in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein at the beginning of the year. Executive Producer Katja Adomeit and her company Adomeit Film, based in Copenhagen and Lübeck, co-produced films including Ruben Östlund's "The Square", which was awarded the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 2017. Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein has supported "The Orphanage" with 80,000 euros. Sadat's feature film "Wolf and Sheep" has already received funding from Filmwerkstatt Kiel and won the main prize at the Quinzaine in 2016.
Executive ProducerNurhan Şekerci-Porst has joined the jury of the "Un Certain Regard" section. The festival section takes a look at exceptional films by as yet unknown filmmakers whose works are shown there. In 2017, the section's main prize went to the drama 'A Man of Integrity' by Mohammad Rasoulof.
With its programme "Segment Producer on the Move" gives young film producers the opportunity to make new international contacts for future projects during the Cannes Film Festival. This year, the Executive ProducerEva Blondiau take part in the renowned programme. Her company Color of May is based in Cologne and Hamburg.
The FFHSH in Cannes: Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein will present itself in the "German Pavilion" during the film festival. The German Pavilion is the joint stand of Focus Germany - the association of the eight largest German film funding organisations - and German Films. The pavilion is the meeting point and contact point for accredited visitors from the German and international film industry at the Cannes Film Festival.
