Cinema operations across Germany came to a standstill several weeks ago - bringing many cinemas to the brink of extinction. Hamburg's arthouse cinemas have now joined forces on the startnext platform for a joint fundraising campaign that will start on 23 April 2020.
A total of 15 Hamburg arthouse cinemas are taking part in the fundraising campaign, which is currently scheduled to run until 19 June. Donations can be made in increments of 5 euros to 1000 euros - the funding target is 400,000 euros, which would ultimately mean 25,000 euros per cinema. So if you want to continue enjoying the diversity of cinema in the Hanseatic city after the coronavirus crisis, you should definitely donate now. The cinemas explain why this is more than important in a joint statement:
"Going to the cinema is stimulating, entertaining, inspiring, activating and, above all, a great community experience! Sitting together in a cinema and watching a funny, highly dramatic or exciting film together is always a great bonding experience. We make cinema with heart! Arthouse cinemas are an important part of Hamburg's culture. The diversity of life in the Hanseatic city is reflected in our film programmes. If this diversity is important to you, help us!"
