German Film Commissions and federal associations launch first nationwide sustainability initiative
15.05.2020 | Keen to be green
The German Film Commissions network has launched a nationwide digital event series for the first time, which provides individual training for individual trades in the field of sustainable work processes. The first webinar in the series starts today under the motto "Keen to be green". Together with the Association of Production Design & Costume Designers, the Federal Association of Film and Television Production, the Federal Association of Unit Production Managers, the Federal Association of Cinematographers and the Federal Association of Lighting Technicians & Stage Designers, the training programme is being implemented for specific target groups. They are supported by the German Film Academy, the Producers Alliance and the Producers Association. A total of nine webinars will be offered for the production design, costume, production and lighting & camera trades.
Green Filming & TV Expert Philip Gassmann will provide information on alternative sustainable raw materials, ways to reduce the carbon footprint, environmentally friendly service providers and other topics in webinars specially tailored to the individual trades. Participation is free of charge. There are still places available for the remaining webinars, which creative professionals from the respective specialist area can register for here.
The German Film Commissions are thus utilising the partially shooting-free period due to the current pandemic measures to provide forward-looking training for individual trades. The creative industry, which is committed to the sustainable development of the film and TV sector, has responded very favourably to the opportunity for free training as part of the "Keen to be green" sustainability initiative. For the Berlinale 2020, the film and TV industry's self-declaration for sustainable production under the motto "Film. Moving. Sustainable" was signed. The production industry, science and politics want to develop and implement concrete measures that efficiently and permanently minimise the negative ecological impact of film and series production as much as possible.
With the "Keen to be green" initiative of their film commissions, the regional German film funding organisations of the federal states - FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, Filmland MV, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, HessenFilm und Medien, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, MFG Baden-Württemberg, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) and nordmedia - Film- und Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen/Bremen - want to support the industry in this necessary further training.
