This year, two FFHSH-funded films will be shown on the big screen at the 77th Venice International Film Festival from 2 to 12 September: The tragicomedy "Gaza mon amour" by Arab and Tarzan Nasser and the short film "What would probably have happened if I hadn't stayed at home" by Hamburg filmmaker Willy Hans.
A French-German-Portuguese co-production has made it into this year's Orizzonti/Horizonte section: the tragicomedyGaza mon amour the film about the two twin brothers Arab and Tarzan Nasser. The film is set in modern-day Gaza and tells the story of the fisherman Issa, who is secretly in love with the divorced market vendor Sihamim. One day he finds a statue of the god Apollo with an erect penis in the sea. The find is the beginning of many troubles. The film is co-produced by the Hamburg Ottensen-based company Riva Filmproduktion, which recently went on a major festival tour with the drama Sibel. "Gaza mon amour" received 220,000 euros in production funding last year.
In this year's short film competition in the Orizzonti section, the film with the extended titleWhat would probably have happened if I had stayed at home by Hamburg filmmaker and HFBK graduate Willy Hans. A chamber drama in which five people wait for dinner in someone else's living room and become entangled in an absurd spiral of conversation in which self-expression seems to be the most important thing. His short film "Das satanische Dickicht - Drei" was shown in Locarno and at the 2017 Hof Film Festival, among others. "Was wahrscheinlich passiert wäre, hätte ich zuhause geblieben wäre" was funded with 25,000 euros in 2019.
