
The biggest festival winners from the north at Filmfest Hamburg

From 30 September to 9 October 2021, Filmfest Hamburg invites you to the city's cinemas for the 29th time. The festival selection includes several North German productions that have already impressed at international festivals. These include the recent Locarno winners "No One's with the Calves" by Sabrina Sarabi and "Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash" by Edwin.

This year, Filmfest Hamburg is showing a total of 15 productions funded by MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.
ASIA EXPRESS SECTION
Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash The action comedy by Indonesian Director Edwin, co-produced by Fatih Akin's production company bombero international and Matchfactory Productions, was awarded the Golden Leopard for Best Film at Locarno. Part of the post production took place in Hamburg and the completion of the film was funded with 35,000 euros.
SECTION GREAT FREEDOM
No One's with the Calves Also in Locarno, lead actress Saskia Rosendahl in Sabrina Sarabi's drama took home the prize for best actress in the "Concorso Cineasti del presente" competition section. Co-produced by Weydemann Bros., the film about the dreariness of rural life was supported by the MOIN Film Fund with 400,000 euros in production funding.

HAMBURGER FILM SHOW SECTION
The two productions have already screened at the BerlinaleBloodsuckers andDistrict Terminal. The anti-fascist vampire comedy "Bloodsuckers" (Executive Producer: faktura film, Berlin) by Julian Radlmaier was largely shot in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district. The MOIN Film Fund supported the project with a total of 250,000 euros in production and distribution. The directorial debut "District Terminal" by Bardia Yadegari and Ehsan Mirhosseini was produced by the newly founded Hamburg production company PakFilm. Executive Producer Farzad Pak was previously involved in "There is no evil" - a drama that won Mohammad Rasoulof the Golden Bear in 2020. The MOIN Film Fund has provided 35,000 euros for the completion of "District Terminal".

SECTION KALEIDOSCOPE
Two subsidised films from Cannes were able to shine in this section. The dramaThe Story of my Wife by Ildiko Enyedi (production: Komplizen Film, Berlin) is set in the Hamburg harbour of the Golden Twenties and received 450,000 euros in production funding. In the leading role: French superstar Lea Seydoux. Finnish filmmaker Khadar Ahmed celebrated the world premiere of his feature film debutThe Gravedigger's Wife (production: Twenty Twenty Vision, Berlin) (funding amount production 100,000 euros). Both films will now have their German premiere at Filmfest Hamburg.The Stranger (production: Red Balloon Film, Hamburg) is the latest film in the series of festival successes: the film has just won the Edipo Re Inclusivity Award in Venice. The film was shot in the occupied Golan Heights - the home of Director Ameer Fakher Eldin, who now lives in Hamburg. "The Stranger" was funded with 40,000 euros.

SECTION VOILA
WithFrance The Story of my Wife" is the second funded competition film from Cannes to be screened at Filmfest Hamburg. The tragicomedy by Bruno Dumonts was co-produced by the Hamburg company Red Balloon Film and supported with 100,000 euros in production.
MICHEL KINDER UND JUGEND FILMFEST
The filmWilli und die Wunderkröte by Markus Dietrich (production: Filmtank, Hamburg) will open the Michel Children's and Youth Film Festival on 1 October. The protagonist of the film (production funding 280,000 euros) is Willi Weitzel, presenter of the children's programme Willi will's wissen.

Together with key players in politics, the most important future topics from the film and cinema industry will be discussed and thus "butter to the fish" will be given after the election campaign. The panel discussion is part of the "All You Need is Law" event series organised by MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein in cooperation with the media law firms GRAEF Rechtsanwälte, UNVERZAGT and VON HAVE FEY. The panellists will be published shortly on filmfest-hamburg.de.
Practical test "Inclusion Rider" - How does diversity by contract work? Wednesday, 06.10., 14:00 to 16:00, in the live stream filmfest-hamburg.de or for accredited persons at Cinemaxx Dammtor
For the new Tatort "Schattenleben", produced by NDR and Wüste Film, an inclusion rider was used for the first time in a German film production in order to contractually record the diversity of the cast and crew. Initiator and Director Mia Spengler discusses the introduction of the Inclusion Rider with Björn Vosgerau, Wüste Film, Christian Granderath, NDR, Lioba Cremer, lawyer and Ulrike Dobelstein-Lüthe, Hamburg Media School at the panel organised by MOIN Film Fund and the German Film Academy. Seats for industry events at Cinemaxx are open to accredited Filmfest Hamburg guests.
Explorer Konferenz - Producing for Cinema, Streaming & TV Friday, 08 October, 12:00 to 19:00, Cinemaxx Dammtor
The second Explorer Konferenz organised by the German Producers Association, MOIN Film Fund and Filmfest Hamburg will focus on the future of producing for cinema, streaming and TV. In the parallel conference sessions, German and international experts will speak on topics such as diversification as a business strategy, virtual and lean production and producing for streaming services.
