16 Hamburg cinemas are rock(er)ed
18.05.2022 | A Stadt sieht einen Film 2022
Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the Hamburg cult film "Rocker", 16 arthouse and arthouse cinemas in the Hanseatic city are showing the German Easy Rider as part of the "Eine Stadt sieht einen Film" event. The packed supporting programme on 19 June includes a location tour, an exhibition - and of course filmmaker Klaus Lemke and some of his crew.
A contemporary film that every North German should have seen at least once: Klaus Lemke's "Rocker" will be shown in 15 arthouse and arthouse cinemas in Hamburg on 19 June. The story of the film takes place in the early 70s in St. Pauli, where bikers, gangs and pimps ruled the roost at the time. 15-year-old Mark is torn out of his middle-class life as a supermarket apprentice when his older, criminal brother is killed. By chance, he meets the ageing biker boss Gerd, who takes him under his wing. Together with Gerd's biker gang, Mark travels through Hamburg and gets involved in crooked deals and disputes.
The cult neighbourhood film from 1972 was cast exclusively with amateur actors and filmed on a small budget with a shaky handheld camera. In addition to the 15 cinema screenings, there will also be a digital location tour with Director Klaus Lemke, who will also be on stage at most of the screenings to talk about the film. At the Altonaer Museum, you can also watch the film as part of the exhibition "Close-up. Hamburg film and cinema stories" exhibition, you can also see a few genuine Props such as the original rocker frock and work photos by still photographer Heinrich Klaff.
