An excellent short film
05.06.2023 | Kiel media artist at the Hamburg Short Film Festival

From Cannes straight to Hamburg: Kiel-based media artist Eugenia Bakurin will be showing her experimental film "Long Time No Techno" as part of the Hamburg Short Film Festival, which will be taking place for the 39th time from 6 to 11 June. In April, the lecturer at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design was honoured with the Short Tiger Award for her work.
Three minutes and 45 seconds that leave a lasting impression: In "Long Time No Techno", Schleswig-Holstein-based media artist Eugenia Bakurin combines archive footage from the first film studio in the former Soviet Union with the sounds of Syrian-Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Momen Shaweesh. Dance moments from children's films from the 70s and 80s are shown, giving an insight into a carefree time. Today, the Odesa Studios are located in the Ukraine and are threatened with destruction by the Russian army. In keeping with this, the musician Shaweesh incorporates his own war experiences into the music and mixes traditional oriental instruments with techno beats.
Back in April, Eugenia Bakurin was honoured for her short film at the Filmfest Dresden with the Short Tiger Award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros and includes a distribution contract. Whoever wins here will also automatically have their film presented at the "Next Generation Short Tiger" programme at the Cannes Film Festival - and then at other international festivals in Warsaw, Buenos Aires, Paris, Rome and Madrid. Anyone who wants to see "Long Time No Techno" for themselves will have the opportunity to do so on Wednesday, 7 June, from 8 pm. The short film will be screened as part of the Zeise Short Film Slam, presented by the Hamburg Short Film Festival at the POST festival centre. You can view the entire festival programme atview here.
