Fatih Akin's biopic "Rheingold" was honoured as best film at the Bavarian Film Awards. The film about the life of rapper, dealer, label founder and gold robber Giwar Hajabi, alias Xatar, has been seen by more than one million cinema-goers in Germany since its release. Another award went to the drama "Out of My Skin" by Alex Schaad.
The Bavarian Film Awards were presented in Munich on Friday, 16 June. The most important award went to Fatih Akin's gangster epic "Rheingold", which was honoured as the best film of the past cinema year. In the film, actor Emilio Sakraya takes on the role of rapper Xatar and traces his rise from refugee to celebrated hip hop star. The film, produced by Bombero International, was shot in Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands and Hamburg, among other places.
The Young Screenplay Award went to the two Script Writers Alex and Dimitrij Schaad for their film "Aus meiner Haut" with the star ensemble Jonas Dassler, Mala Emde, Dimitrij Schaad, Edgar Selge and Maryam Zaree. The future drama was filmed entirely in Schleswig-Holstein
