Distribution ceremony at the Koralle cinema

12.09.2024 | Hamburg cinema awards 2024

Culture Senator Dr Carsten Brosda presented the Hamburg Cinema Awards 2024 at the traditional Koralle cinema in Volksdorf on Wednesday evening. The prizes, worth a total of 100,000 euros, went to 15 arthouse and district cinemas. A special prize was also awarded to "A Wall is a Screen", which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023.

Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media: "At the Koralle cinema in the heart of Volksdorf, you can feel the importance of cinemas for life in the district. With great personal commitment and a palpable love for the medium of film, the arthouse and district cinemas ensure that the cinema is a cultural venue. Here, cinematic art can be experienced, new worlds and spaces for exchange open up, which are essential not least for social interaction in our society. They offer Hamburg audiences a diverse, lively and open programme. With the Hamburg Cinema Awards, we honour this outstanding commitment of arthouse cinemas. I would like to thank the award-winning cinema professionals for their energy and passion."

Helge Albers, CEO of MOIN Film Fund: "The cinemas in the Hanseatic city delighted their audiences last year with outstanding film programmes and special events. Films such as the Oscar-nominated Hamburg drama 'The Teachers' Lounge' or the worldwide phenomenon 'Barbenheimer' have once again shown the magic that cinema can unfold. The cinema scene in our city thrives on the creativity and passion of its operators, who are constantly developing the cinema as a vibrant place of culture and community. A big thank you to all cinema operators for their commitment!"

Hamburg-based Directors Monika Treut ("Genderation"), cinema operator Wiebke Thomsen (Kino im Künstlerhaus, Hanover) and Zeit journalist Oskar Piegsa have decided on this year's Hamburg Cinema Awards. The three industry experts form the current cinema award jury.
