Film trainee programme for career changers promotes diversity and innovation
11.11.2024 | GetOnSet enters its third round
Hamburg, 11 November 2024 - Hamburg Media School and MOIN Film Fund's GetOnSet programme has entered its third year with 14 new film trainees. The practice-oriented training on the film set and in post production offers career changers an optimal entry into the film industry and actively promotes more diversity. This is demonstrated by the anonymous application process and the high demand. Once again, over 180 applications were received.
The first seminars at the Hamburg Media School began in October, in which the new trainees were prepared both theoretically and practically for their assignments on film sets. As in previous years, numerous well-known Hamburg production companies and technical service providers are also participating in GetOnSet as partner companies this year, including Studio Hamburg Postproduction, Zeigermann_Audio and Tamtam Film. During the 10-month program, the trainees are employed by one of the companies and get to know the diverse requirements on the film set and receive practical training through their assignments on current productions.
GetOnSet was launched in 2022 by the Hamburg Media School and MOIN Filmförderung with the support of the Social and Cultural Authority as a program for career changers in order to give disadvantaged talent access to the industry and thus also increase diversity in film and television productions. This year, an anonymous application process has once again contributed to the drive for diversity.
“It's impressive to see how motivated and committed our trainees are. The switch to the film industry is a real reorientation for many of them, and we are proud to accompany them on this path,” says Stefanie Bilen, Head of Continuing Education at Hamburg Media School.
“With GetOnSet, we have created a sustainable solution to secure the skilled workers needed for film and television productions in Hamburg. The high demand and the success of the previous cohorts show that we are on the right track,” says Helge Albers, Managing Director of MOIN Filmförderung.
The previous cohorts of GetOnSet have been extremely successful: more than half of the 27 former trainees have made the leap into the film industry and are now working in permanent positions at production companies or as freelancers. Some of them are working on renowned film and television projects, thus contributing to the further development of Hamburg as an important center of German film production.
