Hybrid storytelling and virtual travelling
14.10.2021 | Around 100,000 euros for five projects
In its third meeting of the year, the "Kurz + Innovativ" Committee of the MOIN Film Fund is supporting five projects with a total of around 100,000 euros - these include the new short film by HFBK graduate Leonie Kellein and an immersive journey to the Amazon region.
Two parallel stories await us in Leonie Kellein's experimental short filmARMADILLO (30,000 euros, Fünferfilm, Hamburg). We hear one story, we see the other: The monologue of a girl being chased in the forest - and a girl skating. Where image and sound track meet, a hybrid of memory, construction and movement is created. HFBK graduate Kellein will spend three days filming in Hamburg.
Further production funding is available for the children's short filmPorcelain (20,000 euros, Problemkind Filmproduktion, Berlin) by Director Annika Birgel. The story centres on ten-year-old Fine, who has been looking forward to her aunt's bachelorette party for weeks. However, in an attempt to impress her family, she commits a terrible act. The script was written by Rudolf Fitzgerald Leonard and Annika Birgel - six days of filming are planned on a farm in Schleswig-Holstein.
Exactly 18,000 euros in production funding will go to the documentary short filmSand by Hamburg filmmaker Dorothea Carl. The project is the sequel to her film "Seasonal Guests" and highlights the people on the North Sea coast - and the sand that surrounds them as the smallest unifying element. The script is by Elisabeth Rapp. Remi Itami's short film is about abortion in Arab countriesNobody wants the night (12,800 euros, Kinescope Film, Hamburg), which is being co-produced with Lebanon and England.
In the area of innovative projects, the Committee approved a concept development in the amount of 22,000 euros forWATU VR by Michael Geidel, Ailton Krenak and Rani Messias. In a unique VR experience, the audience will be taken on a journey to an indigenous reserve in Brazil and follow the ideas of local activist Ailton Krenak for a global, regenerative future. The team will be working with developers and programmers from the region.
The "Kurz + Innovativ" Committee promotes both short films and innovative audiovisual formats, from XR experiences and 360-degree films to immersive story worlds.
