It’s a match: Eight teams of producers and writers have come together as part of the Nordic NEST and are now working across borders on their film and series treatments. The program by MOIN Film Fund, the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and the Five Nordics is thereby entering the screenplay phase – the three best projects will be announced during the Cannes Film Festival.
The eight German–Nordic co-development teams each consist of one writer as well as one German and one Nordic producer. Among the projects are a German-Finnish road movie, a high-end series from Germany, Denmark and Norway, a thriller from Finland, Iceland and Germany, and a black comedy from Germany, Norway and Sweden. MOIN Film Fund is supporting the projects with treatment funding of up to €160,000 in total.
The starting point for the team-building phase, which took place in February, was a matchmaking event at the Göteborg Film Festival. There, ten selected writers met 20 producers from Germany, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The event was preceded by an intensive working week during which the writers developed their film and series ideas together with Le Groupe Ouest, one of Europe’s most innovative initiatives for screenplay development.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR NORDIC NEST?
Following the treatment-writing phase, a jury will select three projects that will each receive up to an additional €60,000 in screenplay funding and will be announced during the Cannes Film Festival. The circle will close at Filmfest Hamburg 2026, when the developed projects will be presented to the international market for the first time.
