Streaming or cinema? From 24 September to 3 October, Filmfest Hamburg will open its doors in a hybrid edition. Seven FFHSH-funded films have made it into the programme, including the Berlinale winner "There is no evil" by Mohammad Rasoulof and the world premiere of Moritz Bleibtreu's directorial debut "Cortex". The films will be framed by several specialist events.
Helge AlbersCEO of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein: "Filmfest Hamburg is back! Albert Wiederspiel and his team have put together a great, Corona-compliant programme with around 70 films. And with the Streamfest, for the first time there is an easily accessible online programme for all those who might want to get a taste of film festival air for the first time. North German film fans can look forward to highlights such as the Berlinale winner 'There is no evil' by Mohammad Rasoulof and the political satire 'Curveball - Wir machen die Wahrheit'. Both films were produced in Hamburg. There will also be an exciting programme of events for expert guests. In short: a more than well-rounded programme!"
SECTION GREAT FREEDOM
Cortex The directorial debut of Moritz Bleibtreu, who also wrote the script for this psychological thriller and acted as Executive Producer (Paloma Entertainment), celebrates its world premiere at Filmfest Hamburg. The film was shot for the most part in Hamburg over 21 days.
Curveball - We make the truth Directors Johannes Naber tells the true story of the BND bioweapons expert who provided arguments in favour of the 2003 Iraq war through an internal mistake and a lot of bungling. Executive Producer is the still young company Bon Voyage Films from Hamburg. The film was shot in Elmshorn and Itzehoe in Schleswig-Holstein, among other places. Curveball celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale 2020.
Short Sharp Shock Fatih Akin's debut film from 1998 is celebrating a re-release at the film festival - in a remastered version! On Sunday, 4 October, "Short Sharp Shock" can also be seen in 16 Hamburg cinemas as part of the "Eine Stadt sieht einen Film" event.
SECTION KALEIDOSCOPE
There is no evil The episodic film by Director Mohammad Rasoulof, produced by Cosmopol Film, won the main prize at the 2020 Berlinale with the Golden Bear. Rasoulof is still not allowed to leave Iran due to his films criticising the regime.
Gaza mon Amour First Venice, now Filmfest Hamburg: the tragicomedy by twin brothers Arab and Tarzan Nasser is set in modern-day Gaza and tells the story of Issa, a fisherman who is secretly in love with Siham, a divorced market vendor. The film is co-produced by the Hamburg Ottensen-based company Riva Filmproduktion, which recently went on a major festival tour with the drama "Sibel".
Furthermore, the Vitrina section will show the funded documentary-fictional filmvirar mar/sea will be shown by Hamburg filmmaker Philipp Hartmann. The DocumentaryPiqueuses by Kate Tessa Lee and Tom Schön is presented by dokumentarfilmwoche hamburg, which shows a selection of films at Filmfest Hamburg.

Tablet Tour - Searching for film locations with the tablet Sunday, 27 September, 10:30-12:30 and 14:30-16:30
The two-hour tour through HafenCity and Speicherstadt presents film locations from current cinema films and Hamburg classics such as "Soul Kitchen". The film clips are played and commented on on tablets at the locations. Registration:Arne Krasting,ak@videosightseeing.deTicket price: 12 Euro

Moderated by Hamburg journalist and artist Michel Abdollahi, Nataly Kudiabor, Executive Producer UFA Fiction, Mia Spengler, Director and Script Writer (e.g. Tatort "Die Goldene Zeit") and Langston Uibel, Actor (e.g. "Unorthodox") will discuss on the Filmfest Hamburg stage. An event organised by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and the German Film Academy.
Tax consultant Ralph Homuth, Andreas Knoblauch, CEO of the Studio Hamburg Produktion Group and lawyer Dr Ralph Oliver Graef will talk about the new tax law issues and point out possible solutions.An event organised in cooperation with GRAEF Rechtsanwälte and the Commerzbank media team.
