Golden Bear for İlker Çatak

The 76th Berlin International Film Festival began with an opening film from Hamburg - and ended with a Golden Bear for Hamburg: Oscar-nominated director İlker Çatak won the Berlinale's highest honour with "Yellow Letters". A total of three MOIN-funded films were honoured: Sandra Hüller received the Silver Bear for her role in "Rose" and "Der Heimatlose" was awarded the Teddy Jury Prize.

Hamburg Tea Time und acht geförderte Filme

The Hamburg Senate and MOIN Film Fund invited the film industry to Tea Time at the Hamburg State Representation in Berlin on Saturday, 14 February, as part of the Berlinale. 8x MOIN at the Berlinale 2026

The North is strongly represented in the capital this year: no fewer than eight funded films have made it into the official programme of the 76th Berlinale from 12 to 22 February 2026. Hamburg, 20.01.2026 - CineHamburg - the new industry gathering of the German cinema industry - will take place in the Hanseatic city for the first time from 7 to 10 July 2026. This was announced today by the associations HDF KINO and AllScreens Verband Filmverleih und Audiovisuelle Medien. With CineHamburg, the two associations are combining the strengths of their previous formats Filmtage Köln and Filmtheaterkongress KINO, thus opening a fresh chapter for the cinema industry.

76th Berlin International Film Festival

Hamburg/Lübeck/Berlin, 16.01.2026 - The 76th Berlinale is kicking off in northern Germany and internationally at the same time: with "No Good Men", a film from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein will open this year's film festival on 12 February 2026. The film north meets in Lübeck: the 67th Nordic Film Days will take place there from 5 to 9 November 2025. German FIlms and Göteborg Film Festival have announced that Germany is the official focus country of the upcoming Nordic Film Market and TV Drama Vision. The 33rd edition of Filmfest Hamburg is just around the corner - and the Hanseatic city is shining in its most beautiful yellow colour. "The seed of the sacred fig"

With "The Seeds of the Sacred Fig", filmmaker and Hamburg resident Mohammad Rasoulof has made it to the final five films for the foreign Oscar - and is now nominated as the German entry for the film world's most important prize. No fewer than four North German productions will be shown in this year's 75th Berlinale programme - two of them even in the Competition: the drama "Yunan" by Hamburg Director Ameer Fakher Eldin with Hanna Schygulla, Sibel Kekilli and Tom Wlaschiha was shot on a Hallig in Schleswig-Holstein. Hamburg, 11 November 2024 - Hamburg Media School and MOIN Film Fund's GetOnSet programme has entered its third year with 14 new film trainees. The practice-oriented training on the film set and in post production offers career changers an optimal entry into the film industry and actively promotes more diversity. Go to the cinema as often as you like: this is now possible with two new cinema subscriptions from Film-Norden. The Cineville card from Hamburg offers unlimited access to the entire film programme of many cinemas throughout Germany from 20 euros per month. Culture Senator Dr Carsten Brosda presented the Hamburg Cinema Awards 2024 at the traditional Koralle cinema in Volksdorf on Wednesday evening. Red carpet and the latest film funding figures: On Tuesday, the northern film industry came together for the annual "MOIN Midsummer" festival at Kampnagel. Around 1,000 guests from film and TV, culture and politics included Cannes winner Mohammad Rasoulof, the "Sløborn" team Aaron Hilmer and Emily Kusche as well as "Die Discounter" Emil Belton, Oskar Belton and Bruno Alexander. Eleven film theatres in Schleswig-Holstein have been awarded the state's cinema prize this year. Award for Hamburg production

The Hamburg-produced family drama "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" by Mohammad Rasoulof has won the Special Jury Prize at this year's 77th Cannes International Film Festival. The honour is one of the most important awards at the festival. Rasoulof was able to accept the award in person in Cannes on Saturday after a dangerous escape from Iran.

Hamburg production at Festival de Cannes

The 77th Cannes International Film Festival begins today, tuesday. It is currently unclear whether directors Mohammad Rasoulof, who lives in Hamburg and Iran, will be able to attend the world premiere of his MOIN-funded film "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" in person. German Film Award 2024

The German Film Awards 2024 were presented in Berlin on Friday evening. The winners of the evening included the film "Sterben" (Dying) by Matthias Glasner, which was shot in Hamburg, with four awards - including the LOLA in gold for best feature film - and "Im toten Winkel" by Hamburg filmmaker Ayşe Polat with three awards.

Funding decision Kurz + Innovativ

In its first meeting of the year, the Kurz + Innovativ Committee of the MOIN Film Fund awarded 160,000 euros to five projects, including the animated film "Uncle Filmi" by Director Nazgol Kashani and the 360-degree film "The Nama Hut" by Namibian artist Tuli Mekondjo.

Six productions with North German participation can hope to win a total of 19 LOLAs at the German Film Awards 2024. Around one million euros for eleven projects

The High End Committee of the MOIN Film Fund has awarded more than one million euros in its current meeting. Five Lolas at the German Film Awards, two nominations for the European Film Awards - and now the chance to win an Oscar®: Directors İlker Çatak's film "The Teachers' Lounge" is one of five films to receive a nomination in the "Best International Film" category, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today. More than 1.3 million euros for 22 projects

At its current meeting, the Director's Cut Committee of the MOIN Film Fund awarded more than 1.3 million euros to 22 projects. Among them are the new Hamburg project "Die Stadt" by "Human Flowers of Flesh" Director Helena Wittmann and the documentary "Solo" about the struggle of single mothers by Hamburg-based directing duo Simona Dürnberg and Christian von Brockhausen.

Contract extension

Helge Albers has been successfully managing MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein since April 2019. The Supervisory Board of the film funding organisation has now unanimously voted in favour of extending the contract for a further five years. The contract, which runs until 2029, was signed today by Helge Albers and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Senator for Culture and Media Dr Carsten Brosda.

XR Pitch Battle 2023

Inception meets virtual reality: VR artist and filmmaker Dan Franke has won the XR Pitch Battle organised by MOIN Film Fund with his VR thriller "Fragments of Silence" and will receive 10,000 euros in funding. The event took place in cooperation with the Nordic Film Days Lübeck in the Infinity Dome and in parallel on ZOOM.
